A Return Home

It has been a while since I've last written.  I have been away visiting family and friends in North and South Carolina.  I purposely left my computer behind as to have less distractions.

We drove through almost every type of weather imaginable.  The icy rain was my least favorite especially going over the mountains in Virginia.  We made it safely there and back again and it feels so good to be home.

Wintry Mix

Tonight we are due for our first snow of the season.  The temperatures have thus far been mild. We have missed the cold wintry weather.  I love staying home all warm and cozy while winter storms do their worst. The worst is not forecast for tomorrow as the snow will turn into a wintry mix of sleet and rain.

How wintry is your weather?

A Christmas View

Though Christmas is over, I thought I'd share one last holiday photograph. We haven't had a big Christmas tree in a few years. Now that we live close to the littles, we decided we needed one. I do love real Christmas trees but with allergies and such, we thought it best to buy a nice artificial one. Love this one that we purchased from Costco.

We chose to put the tree up in our family room.  I absolutely love the big bay windows.  This room came with individual window screen blinds.  You can catch a glimpse of them at the top of the windows.  We will be taking them completely out soon.  I can't stand them.  The house was always shown with the blinds down and I think it made the room look dark and smaller.  I purchased these au natural taupe cafe type curtains.  They are not too sheer and let in just the right amount of light for me.   The room looks soooo much better now.  At first, I didn't care for this room.  The previous owners had a lot of furniture in it and it felt so claustrophobic to me.  The walls are a chocolate brown with off white molding and baseboards.  The ceiling is a lighter brown.  We have about half as much furniture in this room than there was and I love this room now.

A Cup of Christmas Cheer

In yesterday's post, I shared my pre-holiday coffee bar. I love this little butler pantry area just off the kitchen and dining room. Let's add a little Christmas cheer.

A little Christmas mouse all snug in his stocking is waiting for the electric kettle to sing.  To the left of the COFFEE signs is a coffee grinder (my husband likes to grind his coffee beans).  To the right of the kettle is a little metal basket with two small canning jars - one with instant coffee and one with sugar.

The Gathering Place

It wasn't that long ago when I found myself surrounded by countless boxes that needed to be unpacked.  Though boxes were labeled with the appropriate rooms where the contents belonged, the movers were creative with their placement of said boxes.  I remember feeling very overwhelmed and completely lost.  Lost where to even start unpacking and where would I put what I unpacked.  Thankfully, apart from a few stray boxes and the craft room, everything is now in its place.
